I’ve now fitted the clutch but don’t know hat far down to screw the clutch spring retaining nuts.
I’ve left about 4-5 threads visible (picture shows)
Any advice greatly appreciated as usual.
Thanks
Martin

hi martin if it lifts square and the clutch doesn't slip under load and it doesn't drag when changing gear , just hold in the clutch without the engine running and use kickstart to see if it is clutch pressure plate turning true if all good ,then you are ok

I usually wind them in until they are flush with the pressure plate and what Johnny says.

Hi
I started from the position of all screws wound down until the threads were fully engaged:
Then fine adjusted from there.
You could possibly get a lighter clutch action from not screwing them in so far but at a risk of clutch slip later as the plates wear.
Regards Mick

According to the 1953 Owner's Guide for singles - the only one I have to hand
at the moment:
"Spring plate tension is correct when the ends of the springs are just visible when
looking across the face of the spring plate".

Excellent advice like always gents - many thanks.
I’ve now got a nice smooth action, even release and springs set as per all your advice. Much appreciated.
Very little left to do, might actually have to try starting the whole thing soon. Proof of the pudding and all that……
