1948 KG or KH info

Post by SEDoan »

I've been contacted by a woman trying to get info to sell her late husband's Ariel twin project and thought some of you might be able to help.
It appears to be an early production KG or KH, but AOMCC could not issue a cert because it is in pieces and Draganfly is out of stock, so she'd like me to ask here. The bike is in Pennsylvania.
The frame is CX227 and engine PT529. Both seem low numbers for 1948, but were they always together and what is the production date? Is it a KH?
The gearbox is G107F50, so wrong year, but possibly just the covers because they look cleaner than the rest - see picture.
The bike looks pretty compete and original to me - non-stock handle bar and silencers are all I've noticed.
Let me know if you'd like more pictures - there are a few more. Speedo is 120mph and shows 14,318 miles. Her husband had it 30 years!
Thank you!
Shawn

This bike dates from July 1948 and is a KG, numbers only reached 827, so not that many made in 1948. The club would not refuse a certificate because it is in pieces but cannot produce a certificate to aid an application to the UK registration authorities unless the machine is substantially complete, obviously does not apply in this case. Draganfly do not have a stock of dating certificates but produce them to order, I should know as I do them for Draganfly!
G107 is a BA box, the early twins had a CP box. A nice 'find'.

Thank you Roger. She sent me a screen shot of Draganfly's website with an "out of stock" notice - maybe a glitch? Website shows they are back in stock now. I'll let her know. :)

Also, gearbox has the filler behind, near the kickstarter, like a CP box. I didn't think a BA cover would fit on a CP. Is it possible that some G107s were CP boxes?

these are very true words. Sometimes you have to think about the speed of our life and if you can't find the right part, use a similar one and drive.

Thanks for the encouragement, but I'm just asking to help her sell it to someone who will complete it. It does seem like a great project, but it's almost 3,000 miles away and I already have my '46 NG project that is on the back burner because of house projects.

Don't have an address (or a price), but bike is near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Let me know if you are interested in it and I can put you in contact with the owner.

Nothing wrong with the CP box being used on the 500 twin. It was also offered as an option on the 1950 VCH.. Nev
