FH head gasket and head torque

Post by Martin K »

Next up. Head questions.

Can you please advise what torque settings to go with? I’ve read all sorts about torque them down to x for the first 200-300miles and then Re-torque to y after that.

Or - go straight for a higher torque straightaway.

And finally - do you just put the gasket straight down or do you wellseal it on both sides first?

Thanks in advance for the great advice!

Hi Martin

I used a Draganfly supplied head gasket, (black fibrous material), with no additional sealant, also a new set of stainless head bolts courtesy of Acme Stainless. Torqued to 25 foot pounds as per the sequence in the manual, re-torqued several times over the next few weeks until all movement in the bolts had ceased, (this was during the restoration, ie the engine was not being run). I'm now watching the head for any sign of blowing or leakage, (none to date so hoping not to have to endure the pain of removing the rocker box for a re-torque).

Regards Mick
