oil presure 500 1939 single
The oil pressure has dropped down till its about 8psicold on tickover when starting when warm 2or3psi on the gauge when travelling along,i've tried a another pump and adjusted the pressure valve but no difference, now stripped out the inner case to check the quill feed into the crank the quill is 3/16" and the crank is about 7/32 is there any mod to tighten or change the size to make the gap smaller or am I going in the wrong direction I had a modified triumph pump which I had on for a long time and was fine good pressure etc but since this problem? or is it, I fitted a Ariel pump with the same results, the rocker feed is off the front of the inner case, both pumps have been checked out, seating the balls etc,Do I just blank off the gauge which is the only thing I have not checked, any ideas, Am running the bike on 50 oil, regards Clive

On a single, provided you have some oil pressure, stop worrying and just ride the bike. All the pressure gauge does on a single is to tell you that the oil is circulating. Higher pressures just increase the load on the pump with no benefit to the engine.
