Trying to track My Grandfarthers Ariel.

Post by Farrengoding »

Hello

Not sure if i'm in the right place? I have a photo dating back to circa 1935 of my late grandparents on my granddads Ariel, i'm embarking on a search to try and find out if this bike still exists, all I no about it is the picture was 1934/1935 and its registration is: VM9903.

If any one can shed any light on this or help it will be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Farren.

VM 9903 is a Manchester registration issued in Spring 1929. It does not appear on the DVLA database and it isn't in the club's machine register. This doesn't mean that it hasn't survived but fewer than 2% of 1929 bikes manufactured are listed and probably fewer than 5% have survived. Also many records on the register do not include the registration number, that may have changed anyway. The only positive ID is the engine and frame number that unfortunately very few descendants have 90 years later.

I cann't see a rearstand so it could be a 1929 E.

Hi, after looking at the comments on your FB account, no, it's 100% not a Square 4. Your grandfather's bike has only one cylinder, whilst the Square 4 literally had 4 cylinders in a box configuration. Good luck with your search.
