repro postwar Smiths clock cover

Post by Vincent.vanGinneke »

I made two prototypes for a repro 'Smith's clock can be fitted here' postwar version with raised lettering.
Well...I think it is the postwar version, it's on my '45 NG . But maybe it was also fitted prewar ?
Originally they are made from Bakeliet (I think) the new I make from 2 pack urethane resin.
Have to do some fine tuning to the mould (make a new one) as now the casting is to low to get the correct underside on the lathe.
Actually, I dont know if these are already made by someone...just wanted to give it a try to see if I could make them :)
That damn lockdown ! makes me do silly things
Smiths lid (10).jpg
Front left: repro casting as it comes from the mould.
In front at the right: repro one after cutting on the lathe.
At the rear left canister to make the mould. Right: mould.

Hello Chris, yes, these are 2 1/4 "
the one you have is a stamping/pressing with the letters in it.
The Slovack boys are making yet another version, see other thread by them.

now my first two castings have no ridge on the back that is there against this lid 'sliding' from it's position in the dashboard.
The next ones i will give a ridge on the back.
