Damien,
Any chance of cleaning that frame number up a bit and taking a high res image for posting. I see it as W5428 (But I have been wrong before :D )

As Roger has the frame list maybe it is possible to look for any that went to AUS, maybe that may narrow it down a bit

I don't think that's the way it worked. I have gone back through old emails to find one from the late Ralph Hawkins, re dating a couple of 30's bikes. The records show that both went to Tozer, Kemsley & Millbourn of London - shipping agents.
I think the (factory) record trail stops there.

What is the best way to clean up the frame number? At one point I considered going at it with a wire wheel but I decided just to leave it alone rather than making it even harder to identify. I did think about getting some tracing paper and going over it with a pencil ? I'll see if I can take a better closer picture today.

Try some scotchbrite pad or fairly fine wire wool, all you need to do is remove the rust within the stampings. Once you have it cleaned out try powdering up some chalk (blackboard chalk or similar) into a fine powder and rubbing it into the stampings which should make them stand out really well. Then photograph in daylight without flash

Right had a go with chalk. Did not help much. Is such a fine detail that even when I brushed it off with a brush it just filled the parts that can already be read and did not reveal anything else in the worn off parts. So I wiped it down with some acetone and took a picture from the side. That seemed to help. I am pretty sure that is W5928.

All right went out and had another go with steel wool and some acetone on that. That did the trick I think. Think I was being a bit over delicate about it!

When you sandblast frames,all sorts of tiny letters and numbers appear,possibly placed by assemblers or machinists.

Sent out the cad files for the rear engine brackets today to the laser cutter. Next month I will most likely media blast frame and cover it in some throw away protective primer. Then start on the jiggery pokery to hold it all together. Formulating a plan for the bottom tubes. Think I will need to get a tube bender. Think I have sourced some suitable non seamed tubing.

Today I am looking at rear guards. Sure this will be covered somewhere already but does anyone have any opinions on the draganfly reproductions? I see they do a 1928 one .....

I put through one of those lookup requests on the frame number to Draganfly to so will see what happens with that.
