Ariel - air or land (Czechoslovakia)

Post by Simon.Gardiner »

From 'Motor Cycle', Jan 5th 1928 - one for our Czech and Slovakian friends!

I did a bit of internet hunting to try and find some info on Ariel gliders but nothing - I did discover that 1928 was pretty early in the history of 'popular' gliding, the first organised gliding event seems to have been in Germany in 1920, so these guys are pretty much in at the sharp end 8-)

Yes gliders where a very popular thing in Germany during the interbellum.
As per the Treaty of Versailles, a lot of things in Germany had restrictions on them, but not gliders.
With hindsight this proved a good training ground for future pilots ..
