I bought one of these:

It means that the carrier can be fixed to the magneto shaft, then the nut slackened off in order to allow loose fitment of the sprocket with the pin to allow timing to take place.

For each movement of the pin, the timing can be advanced or retarded by 2.3 degrees, but always knowing the original set point. I'm still experimenting a little from the standard 1/2" BTDC.

hi , someone in the club had some made that you undid 3 allen key bolts and rotate the sprocket , i thought it is a very good idea

Julian,

That vernier sprocket looks interesting. The one shown in the link is for a Rudge did you buy that one because one for an Ariel single is not listed?

I have looked out the VH parts and find I have a couple of pullers complete with sprocket . Let me know if your interested ,
I have a fair few other bits including a single cam and pair of followers , side valve follower and a couple of headlamp 3 brush relays. I will try and list it all over the weeked.

Yes. The Rudge one had the right number of teeth, and fitted perfectly on the shaft taper with the key.
