1937 VB Handlebar Clamp

Post by phil.trotter »

Since dismantling my rusty VB I've discovered that it must have been involved in a collision prior to its long term hibernation and that the cause of the damage was not the collapsing shed roof as was suggested at the time. Luckily the main damage is restricted to the 8" headlight bowl and girder fork both of which I can fix but the forged handlebar clamp ( 1"dia with the rubber inserts) is badly twisted and if anyone out there has one to sell please let me know.
Thanks, Phil

There was some talk of the Slovac boys making some,I dont know if they have yet, it might be worth a look on their site. You could always use a non rubber mount one until you find one.Good luck.

Thanks for the kind replies. I'll happily buy a good used one if one turns up but if not I'm mentally designing a straightening jig for the twisted one and may start on its creation in the next few days. I did build a rig to correct the girder fork which was twisted by almost 1" between the top and wheel spindles and bent 3/4" sideways and I'm happy to make this available if anyone is similarly inconvenienced.

Thanks Karol, those new clamps look very well made and identical to the original. I now have a viable alternative should my straightening operation fail.

you have time, there is not much interest in them, probably the production costs were too high. I have 3 pieces. However, if we would have to produce one more series, I will not enter this price anymore.

Since posting this I have successfully reshaped the handlebar clamp to its former glory. Now there's another "special tool" to add to the fork straightener and piston un-seizer!
