1952 VH

I've just bought an Ariel project and the frame belonged to a numbers matching bike owned by (I believe) a club member back in 1989 (per the AOMCC machine register). His name was John Shelton from Grimsby. Does anyone remember this chap.

Cheers

Re: fitting gearbox

I've attached a copy of the instructions from the W/NG 'maintenance manual and instruction book' (section D2) for removal of the gearbox with the engine, mag etc already in the frame. Once its out, or if it is already out i.e. engine in but gearbox not yet in, replacing the box is a reversal and 'ju...

Re: Clutch Plate Thickness

Chaps, I've recently reclined the clutch on my W/NG, and it's working fine but the plates barely fit the basket. I don't think I have sanded them enough. What should the finished thickness be? Simon Just checked my WNG, with the clutch fully engaged under spring pressure the tongues of the last fri...

Re: Tank panel - dished washers?

John
The only 'dished washer' I am aware of is the patent number disc that goes under the head of the front screw. Its part 5153-33. Have you had a look on Draganfly site? it shows the panel fixings....

AOMCC single spares did have the patent disc I bought one a few years ago

Re: Identification questions

You'll need civilian footrests if you want rubbers on them... My '39 VH was fitted with WNG footrests with 'non factory' rubbers! Turned out they were ( I think ) Norton pillion footrest rubbers. See this post http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=4826 A possible solution if you ...

Re: Crankshaft Bearings

I am about to build up the bottom end of my 1956 VB and i note that as well as the roller bearing the crank is supported by two angular contact ball bearings. My question is as they are angular contact then there is supposedly a right and a wrong way round ? Derek You've probably already had a look...

Re: Gearbox bush question

Peter I may have misunderstood your description but the rollers sit in the 'slot' machined in the end of the selector shaft just before the 'gear'. The chamfer on the 'bush' is there to assist in getting the 'roller' loaded selector shaft to enter the bush. D6.jpg Item 39 in the above shows location...

Here's what it should look like

I've got one that's been cut off at the end of the threads and the hole in the rear case blocked off. It's a common modification.
