Simes - it's been a while, remind us please which cases you're using (CNLF or LF) and which crankshaft, big journal or small journal?

Re: Balance factor
A Forum search will find quite a few refs to VH balance factors. 65% gets a lot of mentions (seems to be what the factory used). David Anderson (who has done a lot of work on Ariel singles) prefer to use 66.66%. http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewtopic.php?p=84714 http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/vi...

Use 2090-53?

2091-38 is just a stiff paper washer that fits on the armature shaft behind the sprocket. I think it acts more as an oil thrower as it doesn't really 'seal' anything.

Re: My heirloom '53 Square 4 Mk II: Help Needed
The rod will work OK as long as you change it so the lever (on the brakeplate) is 'upward pointing' not 'downward pointing'. There's quite a bit of discussion on this on the Forum, see for example: http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewtopic.php?p=62979 http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewtopic.php?t=...

Never mind the aftershave - a fine ship that had a short career and a tragic end!

Re: Uprated oil pump for 1957 FH
hi Dickie , get on to MORGO for a uprated pump they make oil pumps , and they are very good and helpful :) Do Morgo make a pump for the Huntmaster/A10? As far as I can see, Morgo don't do A10/Huntmaster oil pumps, the usual 'uprated' pump is from SRM. However (rounded prices - Drags is excl. VAT, t...

Re: Huntmaster Sump Strainer
A10 strainers don't fit - the hole is in the wrong place, but unfortunately the difference isn't so much as to be easily noticeable. When I last rebuilt my FH engine (3 or 4 years ago) I was incorrectly supplied with an A10 strainer by Drags and went through the same sort of puzzling that Simes is d...

Re: E3LM Field Coil replacement
I spent months trying to sort out a dyno that motored fine but wouldn't reliably produce a charge. (I think it even passed the light bulb test.) Eventually fixed it by replacing the armature with a new one. Motoring a dyno isn't a foolproof test for it having good components - I suspect the commutat...
