John - my flat-tops are 1mm below the top of the barrel (I've used the verniers and tried to get it pretty close).

Re: First time Ariel owner and new to the forum
13k miles and it's already on +20????? Hell's teeth......
I'm probably repeating something you already know but don't overlook that engine internals are BSA A10, which does broaden the scope for engine spares even though it probably doesn't make them any cheaper!

Re: '57 Huntmaster - Magneto
John - if you've got flat-top pistons I believe they're taller than the dished ones that Roger has. My engine has got flat tops, I'll check them if you want.
Roger - points gap is 12-15 thou, I've no idea what a special tool is, I've always used a feeler gauge.

Re: First time Ariel owner and new to the forum
Dan - thanks, looking hard at your photo I think the c/case has a second 'K' under the main number, so it's the same (numerically!) as the one I recently got from John Nash and I'm going to call it a K252K. (My FERC-type is a K400 and I was using it on my FH so I assume that's what it's for, Dave Ow...

Re: First time Ariel owner and new to the forum
I've got 2 s/arm twin chaincase inners, one FERC-type and one earlier non-FERC. Neither has any stampings anywhere that say KH or FH.
Hmmmmm!

Re: First time Ariel owner and new to the forum
Nice original bike, Dan. I think the seat/tank fit is an acquired taste. I believe the early 1954 seats were lower at the front but I've grown to prefer the 'flat top' seat look. However, I'd say fit whichever style you think looks (or works) best! (While you've got the chaincase inner exposed could...

Re: Clutch Plates
Sounds like you need to check that the pressure plate is pulling off evenly - with the dome off pull the clutch lever in and rotate the plate with the kickstart. Adjust individual spring-screws as necessary. If you think the clutch is tending to slip tighten all the springs up a turn or so. (I'm not...

Re: Daily Riding Diary on an Ariel
SDC11662.JPG Here's another picture of the Williams - and the legendary Henry Body (in the grey coat - it looks like Steve included the coat and trousers in his pic!), who at 80+ was still competing in sprints on the Douglas, exhibit 461. Looks like the ACU might have finally managed to ban Henry t...
