Re: 1957 Huntmaster clutch chainwheel

Thanks for that confirmation, Mick. The mystery deepens. The chainwheel looks identical to the one illustrated in the parts book. I wonder if the answer is that Ariel made a change from 1/4" to 5/16" at some time? I suppose the simple answer is to make up a set to 5/16" BSF, fit them ...

1957 Huntmaster clutch chainwheel

I'm assembling a Huntmaster from boxes of bits, and have hit a snag when assembling the clutch. I ordered a set of 3391-36 chainwheel set bolts. Drags state that these are 1/4 dia and 11/16 long, cycle thread. When I came to offer them up with the basket, they didn't fit. I measured the holes/thread...

Re: Help with chaincase on 1957 FH

Thanks Mick. It all makes sense now. I thought the hole at 9 o'clock might be a chain oiler needle, but couldn't figure how it dripped onto the chain! No exit hole! Now the light has dawned! I'm so grateful.

Re: Help with chaincase on 1957 FH

Chaps, I need some more help with the chaincase. I've got the set of chaincase screws from Acme and diverted the hotchpotch set from Drags to another use. Chaincase all ready for assembly but there are four other holes that I know nothing about and would appreciate some advice. In clockwise order, t...

Re: 1957 Huntmaster cush drive splined sleeve

Simon, I've sorted this one last night by making up a new spacer to bring 10476-54 out by another 1/4". Thanks to my trusty old Myford, the job now seems to be done and the chain-line is ok. Thanks again.

Re: 1957 Huntmaster cush drive splined sleeve

Thanks for the quick responses, Roger and Simon. The bike has the FERC and as the clutch fits nicely, spins freely and does not rub on the primary case I am assuming that I have the correct mainshaft in the gearbox. (The Gearbox is the original on the bike, but that of course means little when it ha...

1957 Huntmaster cush drive splined sleeve

I need some advice on the bike I am rebuilding from a number of boxes. I am currently assembling the primary drive side and have a problem with the engine sprocket and its sleeve. It has the cush drive spacer 10476-54 fitted inboard but when I offer the engine sprocket on its splined sleeve onto the...

Help with chaincase on 1957 FH

I need some advice on my 57 Huntmaster chaincase. I've got a bike that came in five boxes and so far I've managed to get it to a quite advanced stage while knowing basically feck all about it, but based on my old (long gone) Square 4 and umpteen other British bikes. Problem is, the primary chaincase...
