1935 steering head bearings

The bottom cup on the lower bearing on these older steering heads have a grease nipple fitted. Do they need to fit in a specific orientation to the bottom yoke so you can get a grease gun on and avoid the nipple fouling the frame? The upper bearing does not appear to have a dust cover. Does anything...

Re: Transfers

I think this is an old Club transfer that has become discoloured with age. The original transfers had 7 rectangles, traditional for lucky horseshoes, but some that the club had made were incorrect and had 8. I know this is a bit nerdy but people keep telling me they want accuracy. This transfer was ...

Re: Ariel Square Four motorcycle. 1959. 1000cc.

I think it must be the wrong brake plate. The rear brake was cable operated and there was an adjuster at the top of the plate. The downward pointing brake lever was only a 1953 aberration.

mudguard wiring clip

Has anyone got any of these they don't want? Could do with a few more. I know repros are available but they are plain metal, would prefer original black ones as they are less visible.

Re: Ariel staring in Poirot

They were filmed in England. The '59 catalogue lists finish in claret, black or glamour red. I guess they were selling red bikes from late '58 onwards, although I am sure you could get them to order earlier.

Re: Ariel staring in Poirot

Taken a bit of finding but this is the Ariel Red Hunter in 'The Avengers'. It is in Series 2 Episode 'Mr Teddy Bear'. Honor Blackman about to rip the HT lead off the bike and the actor Michael Robbins finding out the bike won't start. No crash helmet in 1962.

Re: Ariel staring in Poirot

There was also an Arrow with slightly incongruous ape-hanger bars in 'The Knack - and How to Get It' with Rita Tushingham and Ray Brooks.

Re: Ariel staring in Poirot

Other Ariels in TV programmes I can remember: Campion - Sweet Danger, starring Peter Davison, Brian Glover and Lysette Anthony. A black 1930's Ariel is seen quite often. Miss Marple - Bertram's Hotel, starring Joan Hickson. The briefest of shots, Miss Marple crossing a road, a sidecar outfit pulls u...
