I have to admit, I drill mine to match the oil hole (and then slot them to help the resulting feed)!

Re: dual seat for sq4g mk2
Might be worth giving R.K Leighton a call:
https://www.rk-leighton.co.uk/
They don't list Ariel as far as I can see but they've done plenty of Ariel dualseats in the past.
(A Forum search will find plenty of references.)

Re: Magnetic particle pickups.
My BM R100 has had a magnetic sump drain plug for the last 10 years, there's always a lump of fine furry particles on it come oil change time (which is always at the BMW service intervals, I am also a confirmed oil changer....and filter changer, and that fur arrives despite the BM also having a 'pro...

Re: Who are they?
We've had Reg Spokes and and his son mentioned recently, regarding the pre-war Porlock pic in the thread at: http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewtopic.php?t=13574 In the Porlock pic the person at 3rd from left was suggested to be Reg's son but the guy in the sidecar in this pic looks more like the r...

Re: Small end bush
Looking closely at the first pic, it's got a spiral groove in the old bush too?
I haven't seen that in a small end bush - again probably harmless but I don't think a spiral will draw oil into the bearing particularly. The bearing doesn't rotate, it oscillates.

Re: Small end bush
Factory would have had a slot that matches to the slot in the rod eye. I've seen plenty with a variety of holes in though, and some also with a lengthwise groove at the top of the bush.
As Nev says, I don't think it's critical, as long as some provision is made for lubrication.
