These bearings are the same as used as main bearings in the singles, dimensions of 1" * 2.25" * 5/8". In my parts list they are shown as 1440-30, and I have the following manufacturer/model numbers: R&M LJ1 Hoffman LS10 SKF RLS8 If anyone has more up to date identifiers, or those ...

I had this problem once, and fixed it by using a six hole lockwasher placed between the chainwheel and clutch drum, to space the drum out slightly. I was not sure of the exact cause of the problem, it could be slight misalignment of the parts, or distortion/casting variations in the primary cases. I...

Spares at the AGM Autojumble

Just a reminder of the parts I have available, as listed in the members section of the forum. I plan to have a table at the AGM autojumble, so could bring any parts ordered with me for collection at the AGM. I also have a few parts (not listed on my website) that I am bringing on behalf of some frie...

Although a little different, after my open heart surgery I was advised not to drive for at least six weeks, and not to ride a bike for three months. The essential part is to get your consultant, once you are advised you are fit to drive and/or ride again, to write to your GP confirming this, so ther...

No reason, you just need to drill and tap a hole to take the fifth barrel base stud. It might also be worth checking if the large d/s and t/s bearings have moved in the crankcase, as these will (should?)be replaced by roller bearing outer races, and the d/s outer can come loose and work inwards, cat...

There are details in the knowledgebase of the factory mods to improve the forks, involving shortening the top bushes, moving the lower bleed hole upwards, and filing a teardrop around the upper bleedhole to slow down oil cutoff. Just search the knowledgebase using the keyword forks. I have made my o...

Charlie/Dick It is possible to fit an oil seal from a K2F mag to the endplate of a MOI mag (flat head rivets with head inside), you also need to shorten the peg that locates the slipping clutch lockwasher. You can strip the drive gear for a number of reasons, dynamo sticking/jamming, up and down pla...

Re: 12 volt dynamo systems

I have used a JG 12v unit in the past, on both a VH and a FH, and had no problems with either over many years. They just used the dynamo as is without a new 12v fields coil or armature, although the dynamo needed to be in a good working condition (and the magdyno clutch drive grease free!). The inst...

Re: VH 500 1949 Head gasket

I believe thin copper head gaskets were only specified for iron singles engines, including the 350, but are not vital if there is a good fit between the barrel spigot and head recess (achieved by lapping in with some form of grinding paste, dependent on the state of both!). I have sold a few copper ...

Re: Flat Tyre

Regarding using french chalk to fit/refit a tyre and tube, a substitute that is much easier to obtain in talcum powder, preferably the baby type as it doesn't have any additives/scent. Used liberally inside the tyre ( shake in and rotate the tyre until the inside is coated) and rub into the beading,...
