Thanks everybody. I will see if I can knock the second nut off the axle/pin with an air driven socket & then make a puller to put on one end & see if that plus a well aimed sledge hammer at the other will jar the pin/axle loose inside the spacer tube. No harm in trying that before resorting ...

Swingarm axle removal

Anyone got any tips besides "brute force and ignorance"? The resilience of the rubber bushes seems to resist tapping the axle through although in this case the axle is turning. I think the last time I managed to remove a swingarm axle, I got started using by using a spacer under an end nut...

Re: Screw thread size: attaching spring cover to lower fork

As these are only 6 very small screws in an apparently not particularly critical application, it might seem pedantic to worry too much about them. However, if you want to do things right which seems the point of restoration because why do it otherwise, and if as well you care about who comes after y...

I am wondering now if it it's that odd fellow, 5/32 BSW (32 TPI).
I once knew an old engineer who kept a small Myford lathe in the corner of his workshop for the sole purpose of making such screws.
It's not the same thread, however, as the screws received from Draganfly.

Screw thread size: attaching spring cover to lower fork yoke

What is the size and thread on the 6 x small slotted screws (Part No. 081) attaching the spring cover(s) to the bottom fork yoke on a 1959 VH, etc. ? Draganfly's catalogue quotes 5/32 CEI (I assume that means 26 TPI which is pretty course at this size but the actual screws they've sent me are more l...

Twine seal at tele fork slider/oilseal holder

Anyone know the size of twine used as a seal at the junction of the oil seal holder and the front fork slider. It is not specified in any workshop mauals that I've got which is more than a few. I did come across it 0nce reading a Sqaure 4 Manual for sale at an Autojumble but I didn't buy the Manual ...

Well, I bought the 4 & 7/8 inches long BSA stainless oil seal holders. Offered up alongside the stanchions that came out of the bike & are to be refitted, they appear to be a tad under 1/8 inch too long. On full recoil there is the likelihood that the top end might smack the underside of the...

I did try Budgeon a few weeks ago but he was out of stock & had no idea when he might have ones in again.

You're right, Keith. I don't like using chrome holders bacause they rust & I really hate dismantling & rebuilding front forks to replace them. I've done enough of them to know I don't like it. I did, indeed, try Drags in vain for stainless ones and you just don't know how long you have to wa...

There are BSA stainless oil seal holders on sale on Ebay which match the dimensions I've measured for Ariel except for total length. These BSA ones are reported to be 4 & 7/8 inches long, i.e. 23/32 inches longer or in rounder figures approx. 3/4 inch. Can you see that making a difference, Pete?...
