Re: Ariel Factory Despatch records

Quite right to be so, I often criticise people for assuming that others will know stuff like acronyms being introduced without writing it out in full the first time.

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels

I use a press fit parallel pin with a Jawa con-rod in my engine, no nuts, no problems after almost 54,000 miles, well not with the pin to flywheel arrangement. The wheels were machined from steel billet and the fit is tight to say the least, I see 5 tons on the gauge on my press.

Re: Ariel Factory Despatch records

The originals are currently held by the VMCC which is where the Science Museum sent them for some reason. Many years ago, while they were still at the science museum the club and Draganfly shared the cost of having them copied onto microfilm, they were later transferred to pdf files by Ariel and sev...

Re: 1930 LF

The 'R' in the part number denotes that it is a part only used on the 'R' gearbox, when it is used on multiple gearboxes the suffix used is 'X'. However, because Burman's were not as clever as Ariel if a part is used on another model later the number will change from being specific to a model to uni...

Re: NH 350 inner timing cover dowel fitment

The dowels were added in 1955, unfortunately Ariel forgot to list the new case in 1955 although the dowels and new gasket are listed. The new case is listed in 1956 erroneously as 2000-56 and without any drawing number. If you search Draganfly's site using 2000-, in amongst all the other stuff you w...

Re: NH 350 inner timing cover dowel fitment

The 'Do Not Use' part numbers are listed beside the spares number in the parts books until 1956, although I did once see a 1956 FH export parts book with the part numbers listed. I tried and failed to obtain a copy. the Part numbers were used within the factory and are the ones to be found on drawin...

Re: Oil filter

There are 3 filters used that fit inside the neck of the oil tank over the years. 5861-52 1952-54; 5861-55 1955 and 5861-56 1956-58. The 1st 2 are interchangeable and available (short dumpy type), the latter is listed as out of stock (long thin one) but with a price so perhaps they have been made an...

Re: Oil filter

The only likely supplier is Draganfly, although you could try club spares. Yes it is OK to run without one, as Paul says they will stop grit going round but if you have grit in your engine you are in trouble anyway or your bike is...

Re: Beautiful little Ariel on Ebay

Spares are available, not all of them though. Generally more difficult than for the bigger bikes, smaller market, less valuable, so less demand.
