Another annoying rattle cured
One of my WNGs had a really annoying top end rattle, proper loud. Had it ages, tried a few things and was living with it. One of the local lads reckoned it might be the pushrods hanging up in the rockers. Yeah I thought . Well, after my issue with sticky push rods on my other single, I had a look. W...

Re: Horrendous valve clatter and lack of go
Update. I swapped in a single lobe cam and followers. I finally traced fluctuating clearances to the push rods hanging up in the followers and, to a lesser extent, the rockers. ... very odd but cured with some lapping. Bike is now making what I consider to be typical ariel noises. Performance is sti...

Re: Horrendous valve clatter and lack of go
Thanks for the info everyone ! I've got it apart and....... can find nothing untoward :? . I'll swap in my single lobe cam and reset it all up and go from there. i'll need some bits from Drags tho (and the post are on strike now ... ) Paul: I tried all the easy stuff with a variety of clearances, li...

I see that draganfly has camshaft and cam follower shims listed ?
I've never used them on any single cylinder bike I've had ( this is my sixth ...) and I don't think I've dismantled anything with any ...

Re: Horrendous valve clatter and lack of go
20220904_191622.jpgJohn , what valve springs are you using, better to use the longer soft springs v422 Head and barrel were originally on a 1952 engine,so I guess that had a single lobe. I recollect that I made the push rods up to the dimensions drags gives. Sounds like the timing side comes off fo...

Horrendous valve clatter and lack of go
New build. Iron VH. New big end, bottom end bearings, rings etc. But other second hand bits. 23 tooth sprocket. Very very noisy from the start. Doesnt get better or worse when hot and unchanged in the first 50 odd miles, despite altering the clearances timing and other obvious stuff. It sounds like ...

Lycette dual seat
£20 for the rusty frame at a jumble. 8 months to get it re-covered .. but I'm pleased. I could have bought a swingarm to house my girl comfortably ... but I couldnt sell my plunger twin. So it's now got a 500 single, my preferred engine, and a comfy seat https://owensmotorcycles.co.uk/images/spares/...
