Re: 1950 NH 350 twin port

Hi, for what it is worth............... A 70 year old bike is just that. It is of its time when traffic was slower and there was less of it and a bike (even 350) would keep its own with most of the family cars. I would not want to ride my VH on a motorway. Modern HGVs can stop more quickly than it c...

Re: 1950 NH 350 twin port

Hi, It's a nice bike. My VH started life as an NH but by the time I got it, it had the VH tank and being 18 yrs old I wanted more umph. I'm not sure what the market value is. It is more a matter of how original it is (i.e. correct tin ware/ tank), its condition as a whole and if you like it enough! ...

Re: moving house.

David,
What more can I say other than keep well and persevere. I look forward to hearing from you again in the future and thank you for your valuable assistance in the past.

BR,
Keith Owen

PS. Your input on setting for the concentric has been taken on board and the bike runs a treat!

Re: oil level in timing case

Hi Volker, Sorry for not responding sooner, but I have been away for a few days visiting my granddaughter. I looked at the photo of the timing side casting on your pre-war machine and it occurred to me that it is subtly different to that on the post-war machines. I happen to have a pre-war example a...

Re: Sticking exhaust valve?

Hi,
I am no expert here, but unless there is a blockage somewhere, 10 psi should be more than enough. The later singles got oil fed by a diversion from the return and given that sometimes all one gets are bubbles into the tank (and that with the old arrangement) the pressure must be minimal.

Re: Daily Fixing and Riding Diary on an Ariel 2020

That would have been a disaster!
Anyway, the bike is in bits whilst I undertake some small jobs (like touching up with paint where the powder coating came off).

I need to get a move on and get it finished......................It's already August!

Iron VH Pushrods

Hi, I have discovered that the push rods on my VH are slightly different lengths and the one I had fitted to the exhaust is over-length by about 1/4". This meant that when I adjusted the rocker the adjuster was almost entirely threaded into the arm. Not an ideal state of affairs although it sti...

Vibro-tech Parts Washing Fluid

Hi, I bought some Vibro-tech parts washing fluid which the manufacturer claims is 'safe to use on brass, aluminium and other sensitive metals'. It doesn't like Ariel Singles rocker boxes. I put one in and within no time it was going black. Fortunately I noticed what was happening and removed the box...

Re: Oil Leaks - Singles

Hi David, I have checked the Royal Enfield breather pipe and it seems fine; I don't think that, for the moment anyway, breathing is the problem. I did have the drain hole in the crankcase on the high side and I'm wondering if perhaps that could have been the problem. I have lowered it and will see i...
