Re: CP Gearbox woes...
When you assemble the gearbox, does the gear sector quadrant go in a central location (i.e. in the middle along its length of travel onto the camshaft) - that is how I assembled it. Not quite assimple as that, Steve. on the end of the selector shaft you'll see an '0' stamp in the valley of two teet...

Re: Paint colour
Helo, Dave. Im no expert on WD machines, but is it yellow enough to have been 'desert camouflage'? Were Ariels used in the sandy theatres of war?

Re: Ariel Riding and Fixing 2023
Ive fitted a Thorspark to two bikes - a Matchless and a Panther. Theres no need to remove the mag and its easily reversible should you change your mind. The only issues are with setting the timing up - it needs to be done with a strobe light for full accuracy as the felt tip mark for the trigger poi...

Re: Taps and dies
Tracy Tools are excellent to deal with and good on prices too. You could save a few quid by buying the ordinary carbon steel taps and dies if you are only going to be cleaning threads up. They'll cope well with cutting just a few new threads, especially if you are able to cut them first on a lathe, ...

Magneto Repairs - Old Iron Engineers
I needed a mag rebuilt for my 1948 Matchless G80S and after a 5 month wait for another mag for my 1926 AJS 500 from Armoto, I gave Matthew a call - per their ad in CdeF. This was on a Thursday lunchtime. He told me he was about to start on a batch of armature rewinds and if I could get my mag to him...

Re: WANTED - BAP speedometer driven gear - AN UPDATE
I must admit to feeling a little despondent when I read your post, Paul. I had visions of all sorts of mayhem and aggravation being uncovered. However, the Spirit of Ariel has decided to grant me a respite. Geoff Brown of gearbox spares fame was extremely helpful and sent me a speedometer drive kit ...

Re: WANTED - BAP speedometer driven gear
That's interesting, Paul, thanks. I have a dating certificate from 1990 that confirms that the bike, originally an NH350, was despatched on 26/5/37 and the old brown RF60 shows the date of registration as 25/6/37. It now has a 500 OHV engine, the dating certificate for that shows that it was despatc...

Re: WANTED - BAP speedometer driven gear
Thanks, John. Ive been in touch with Geoff about it and it could be a little engineering adventure with the Boxford is on the cards. Stripping the box wasn't my first choice - Ive done it a few times on my 37 Sunbeam which had a noisy BAP box (but no speedo drive) I cured that eventually and at a pr...

Re: A new member with BAP problems
That's an option I'd not even considered but worth a thought. I've had a message from Geoff B - he has a kit which involves replacing the worm gear on the end of the layshaft and fitting a matched spindle. Life's never straight forward is it

Re: WANTED - BAP speedometer driven gear
Thanks for the info, Roger. I had a feeling that problems were afoot and nothing is simple I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the X denoted an oil seal but haven't been able to find where it was Aint age wonderful?
