Ah, the penny has dropped !
I thought that somehow the primary chain must be oiled from the oil tank not realizing it was the drive chain that was sort of splash fed from the primary chain case. Thanks.
Any ideas on the seals?

Thanks for info. I should have mentioned that the bike is a bit of a "bitsa"! Acording to the engin no. the engin is 1954 VH. Some more info .... Behind the inner chain case there is a stub of casting that looks to have been broken off. There is a threaded hole in the outer chain case. The...

NH primary chain case

The rebuild of my 1956 NH is makeing steady progress but can anyone till me what the small hole in the inner primary chain case is? Is it to do with automatic oiling and if so how?
I have attached a couple of pics. showing what I'm talking about.

One of the old bushes is in good condition and (using a didgital vernier) mesures 1.471" and is a good fit in both sliding tubes. The new top bearing although a bit tight will fit into both tubes and reads 1.474". The new lower bearing will not start to fit in the tubes and seems to be ver...

Hi, I am rebuilding the forks on my NH and trying to fit the lower bearing found that it dosen't fit into the sliding tube. On comparing it with the old one it is 0.004" biger diamiter. These were bought from Dranonfly a few months ago. Also when I removed the old bearings I saw that one of the...
