Re: Experts
Unfortunately Thatcher decided in the 80s that we’d be better off without manufacturing and engineering, and that relying on ‘the City’ would be better. It’s ok if you’ve been brought up in an engineering family, but all those proper ‘suds oil based’ apprenticeships also taught people the relevant s...

Re: Silver solder types
I won’t be working on anything too taxing, mostly seem to use it making tools and little repairs/bodges. I’ll leave stuff like school bus steering columns and jet plane landing gear to those with the appropriate skill set . Typically in-depth answer Charles, thanks to you and the others for enlighte...

Re: Silver solder types
Thanks Johnny. I’ve used it for years but used to get it from where I worked and can’t remember the spec. I seemed to have a bottomless supply but it’s finally running out and I want to make sure there’s some there when next required !

Re: Silver solder types
Thanks guys, Easy Flo is still around, spec says 550-800 deg so I’ll see what that tallies with. There’s solder of varying silver percentages, is the percentage temp related or just quality ?

Silver solder types
Hi chaps,
What sort of silver solder rods should I buy for general repairs ? If there is such a thing.. my seemingly endless supply is running out and I don’t have any details on its spec, % etc. I use Easy-flo flux with it if that helps
Cheers

Re: Inspection lamp
Thanks Paul. I decided last night to have a go, as my wife and young son were watching ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, and I was in danger of scratching my own eyes out ! I made something similar, brass covered in Nylon, although mine only needed about 9mm, from the Positive tang that comes off the switch ,...

Re: Inspection lamp
Thanks Paul, I’m guessing it’s Ike the widget in the tail light, with an insulated central piece, but a pic would be great when you get time. No rush, it’s on the ramp for a few weeks

Inspection lamp
My inspection lamp hasn’t had a bulb in for a while and I’m now missing whatever it is that connects to the bottom of the bulb. Any idea what I’m missing?
Thanks
