Well. I already swapped the petrol out for some that is in running bike. I'd swapped in a plug from a running bike too and regapped others. I tried Paul's pencil thing with exactly the same result. The only other cause I've experienced with a bike (including an Ariel single) being difficult/erratic to start is when the camwheel timing marks have been slightly mis-read and the valve timing is one tooth out. I have concentric carbs on two VH's - 30mm
They fit and run fine.

Both are on a 200 main jet.
