Re: another jetproblem

I do not know whether this carburettor is similar to later amal ones or not. My wife's indian enfield got a nice new amal and it took me ages to get it right (sometimes it's easy and sometimes ages of messing with jets). Her's would spit back something awful on revving and dropping back onto idle. I...

Re: VB with VH top end - much bigger jets ?

Update:

A 240 main jet cures all the issues, air slide not needed, no more spitting back.
Seems excessive, but we'll see how we go.
I'll do some plug chops at speed.

Re: Headlamp shells for '56-'59 models

The parts list , on the AOMCC members site lists Part No 51818B, which I think corresponds to Type SS700P.

What I am not smart enough to know is the difference between the ones with switches in and your type (where the switch is on the yoke)

Re: Real Classic - March 2011

I have. I saw a 6 issue deal for a tenner. Never read it; thought I'd try it. it seems pretty incestuous. Same small group of people and their opinions but I've paid now, so have 6 months to make up my mind I saw the ariel article. It's not that modified really is it ? mods to the breather, oversize...

wide open throttle.
It's fine on idle, just off idle and everything else.
Crack it wide open and it requires the air slide to get it to run.

I've had cutaway issues on the enfield's amal. Coming off and onto idle - that would spit like good un'. Went to the next richer cutaway and it was sorted.

VB with VH top end - much bigger jets ?

Now that I have put the right cam in, then by VB/VH hybrid pulls over 30mph. HOWEVER, with the standard carb (on OEM jet sizes) then it requires about a 1/2 to 2/3rds closed air slide to stop spitting back and stuttering at wide open throttle. It doesn't have an air filter. To me this appears to be ...

Re: What are you listening to?

Old people eh ?

I tried an IPOD on the bike, but I had to ramp the volume up so high that:
  1. I couldn't hear anything at all - such as approaching runaway lorries etc etc
  2. I couldn't hear the bike and I was worried in case something was going to explode
Gone back to the bike's own soundtrack.

Re: trouble light on panel tanks

A brass one from the club is a frightening £180, for something that is effectively just dressing. I also need to be careful as I just bought a hinckley bonneville, so all large bike related spends are going to get close scrutiny .. ("what does it do ?" "oh, that's £175 more than your ...

Re: trouble light on panel tanks

Now that you can get decent 6v LED bulbs, in standard sizes, then it makes sense to use them. These guys (unfortunately in america) http://www.superbrightleds.com/ do the small 6v bayonet LED bulbs that fit the pilot lamp (in the headlight) and the speedo. You can get standard stop/tail and tail onl...
