Re: ARIEL LEADER SHOCK ABSORBERS

The Paiggio units are an interesting option. Shame it’s for a 5kg lighter application but I bet our 60 year old springs are way softer and fitting these units would give a firmer ride. The Hagon, custom made units would be a step up, maybe fitted with chrome springs of the correct rate they could be...

Re: ARIEL LEADER SHOCK ABSORBERS

The whole of the original 1956 damper drawing should now be attached for your files. Where can I view them all? These are a fascinating peek into the past and a reminder of my early days manufacturing experimental parts for trials. The control of updates on those drawings as the project progressed w...

Re: ARIEL LEADER SHOCK ABSORBERS

Hi Roger
I must have the rest of the drawing for that shock absorber so I will look it out. Not sure where you’re getting the grease nipple from. There is a grease dimple, filled during manufacture though.
I have copies of the original barrel drawings if you don’t already have on file?

Re: Fuel Cap Tight

It’s surely not the size of the cap but the size of the o ring material or the dept of the o ring grove. There will be a big difference in the fit depending on the section of o ring material used, for example, if it’s 2.4mmm and too tight a fit surely a 2mm section would be worth a try.

Re: ARIEL LEADER SHOCK ABSORBERS

I seem to remember Brian Hinchcliffe sourced some ‘Classics’ for his bike. They had the eye top mount so not a direct replacement but I’m sure he will fill you in when he sees your post.

Re: ARIEL LEADER SHOCK ABSORBERS

There is a copy of the original drawing of the rear damper around, I saved the image but can I find it now…
Does anyone have it to share with Paul?

Re: Bike stands

We didn’t find getting it off the workmates too difficult, I had a friend to help and he is a science teacher so no weightlifter!🤣

Re: Bike stands

I’m lucky enough to have inherited a hydraulic table lift now but when I built my last arrow, two Black and Decker Workmates were used with great success to assemble the machine, the workmate clamps are wide and deep enough to grip on the tyres and I think I also had a rope around it and over the ro...

Re: crank shaft removal

Not sure what you have there but it’s possible to improvise depending on how tight it is/has become/how long it’s been together. They cane be scary tight. There are 2 stages to splitting the crank, the first one is the torque to undo the bolt, the second comes a a few turns later when it bursts the ...
