Up to '52 lower tab goes on a stud in the engine plate (as described in previous posts) '52 on (rigid/plunger) the tank tab goes on the top gearbox mounting stud, but the engine plate still has a hole in the exact same place for the earlier oil tank stud. (Later plate can be converted by brazing a p...

I think there is supposed to be a felt washer (more like ring) around the stem just below the point where the grease enters from the upper nipple (maybe one above the lower grease point as well). You'd get two smaller voids to fill up intead of one big one...

This is mainly aimed alternatives for twins but there's some mention of 'singles' (albeit BSA, the installation should be similar) in this info from Goffy's web site. (And I've just noticed the kit aimed specifically at Leaders and Arrows !). However, it seems to me that a full replacement ignition ...

My '53 NH would happily thrash down motorways at 70-75 all day long, although the big-ends would disappear after 7k miles. It was much smoother after I started putting the crank back together with the absolute minimum run-out. (Up to a point, as has been said, things will always fall off, but it sho...

I'm not sure this has eliminated the possibility of transmission which can also be affected by load (retarding ignition = less load?) 'whine' sounds more like bearing/gears or possibly chain/sprocket, 'clanky' could be chain, clutch, broken bearing? Or something loose. Or possibly even the camshaft ...

Where's my anorak gone..... '56 part nos for chaincase inner, 5711-56(singles), 5712-56(FH), 5713-56(KH) However I have run a bike where the 650 engine was swapped for a 500 single, the chaincase wasn't changed, I cut a spacer from a piece of alloy sheet and used it between the chaincase inner and t...

I've just pulled out a rather grubby 52-55 type, I wouldn't like to guarantee the spigot height(partly because it's still got the copper gasket well stuck on) but the diameter is about 3.156 - maybe 3 5/32 ? However, I've got a feeling that the later ones also have an extra fin - this one's got 10 f...

From 1952, bigger finning on head and barrel, head gasket and smaller spigot on top of barrel (smaller diameter and slightly lower as well). The 350 kept an iron head until 1956, and in 1955 (I think for the one year only)there was much more pronounced finning in the area above the push rod tubes. (...
