Re: Using a table lift

Hi You can, but it could be pretty precarious depending on how large the table lift is. Best to make some wooden frame tube cradles so as to support the frame clear of the prop stand lug, exhaust etc. and ensure it goes up perpendicular. Personally, if I didn't have a bike lift I'd do it on the cent...

Re: Ariel Riding and Fixing 2023

Hi I was wondering what could have caused a failure such as this and I think you have the answer in the, non standard, cylinder base gasket. In my opinion, leather will compress in use due to the heat cycling of the engine and the barrel nuts will lose torque. Unless you are going to engage in a str...

Re: Ammeter not reading.

Hi If there's nothing obvious when you look at the wiring I'd start by checking out the ammeter. Disconnect the wires from the terminal post, (making a note of where they are fitted), and tape the ends to avoid accidental contact / arcing. Place the probes from a multimeter, set to resistance on the...

Re: Oil weep from feed pipe nut

Hi

Yes, that's the correct nipple for a 5/16", (8mm), pipe. In fact the picture seems to have been sourced from The Green Spark Plug Companies web site.

Re: Oil weep from feed pipe nut

Hi I'd be very careful if either silver soldering or annealing the pipes, you need to ensure absolute cleanliness internally, heating to 'red' hot will carbonise any oil in the pipe which may then flake off in use and restrict oil flow downstream. I don't really see much point in annealing the pipe ...

Re: Oil weep from feed pipe nut

Hi In my experience the most likely cause of a weep will be damage to the mating surfaces of the union and pipe nipple. If you're going to strip them for investigation I'd replace the nipple and union as a matter of course. The nipple is just soft soldered on and are available here: https://www.gspa...

Hi It's fitted from the outside, onto the indicator shaft and into the recess in the outer cover, a smear of Vaseline helps. Don't bother fitting it before you fit the outer cover as the action of sleeving the cover over the indicator shaft more often than not pushes the seal out of the recess. Rega...

Re: Magnetic particle pickups.

Hi All engines 'make' metal, the degree, time and quantity is indicative of the state of 'health' of the engine. After an overhaul metal will be produced as a product of parts bedding in, during normal running ingested road debris can remove metal as it makes it's way to the sump / oil tank, interna...
