Re: Clutch needle roller journal
Thanks, agreed. First see if a new shaft is available - thanks Simon, yes I've messaged gearbox spares guru Geoff, see if he can help. Otherwise grind and sleeve. If of any interest to others for one-off and batch work I can't recommend too highly M&S precision grinding in Wolverhampton. They ar...

Re: Clutch needle roller journal
Hi Roger, thanks for your reply. Definitely indents which are deep enough to feel with my finger nail and in a regular pattern all the way around corresponding to the staggered arrangement of the rollers. Otherwise clean and shiny, no signs of corrosion or staining. Hoping they are available I've as...

Clutch needle roller journal
Doing a cosmetic overhaul on my '40 W/NG has involved removing the clutch. Spinning the basket by hand before removal didn't sound as smooth as I would expect. After removing the clutch basket the journal on the mainshaft which the needle rollers run on is found to have indentations from the needle ...

Re: Paint colour
Just in case it's of any use to anyone else restoring a mid-1940 W/NG at any future date, the match I've settled on as being closest to my original paint samples is -
Selemix 34-0560 Olive Green. Obtained in this instance from Bitec in Telford.

Re: Paint colour
Many thanks for your posts Vincent and Nev. Am happy to accept that I'm dealing with KG3 in some form or another but it is nowhere near that colour in the chart posted here by Vincent, likewise the Matt KG3 samples I have in the shed in modern aerosols or as older applications on bikes. Difficult fo...

Re: Paint colour
Hi Ian, the standard early war camo colour up to around 1941 was "Khaki Green Number 3", and I fully agree that variations on that were highly likely at the time depending on who mixed each batch from the secret recipe! The shade I've found traces of is different enough for me to question ...

Re: Paint colour
Thanks Nev, I'll drop them a line, see if they can provide a paint code which is recognisable in UK.

Re: Paint colour
Hi Nev, I'd be interested to see what your original shade of Khaki looks like, if you could provide details of your paint match code please I'll attempt to track it down here in UK.
Regards, Dave.

Re: Paint colour
Hi Vincent, thanks re WM20 website, yes, I keep tabs on that already. To try to narrow things down before asking any more questions I'm going to try to find a match for the paint samples that remain on my bike to see if it corresponds to a known colour. Also found more traces of it on the insides of...

Re: Paint colour
Hi Steve, thanks for the suggestion. Likewise I'm largely ignorant about WD colours, but it's more a yellowish shade of Khaki green than the standard shade of KG3 - which I have, and have offered up next to it to compare - so it's not brown or buff enough to be maybe for desert camouflage? But who k...
