you can cut the wire and make a connection with a round male/female connecter or a small fuseholder and you can put the lamp in your pocket if unattended and proplem solved

Hello Dave use a good paintstripper to heat up, because the hot air of the stripper is clean and a flame always gives smoke and carbon because you burn something.
