Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels

Correct stick firmly grasped at correct end, I think.

I quite agree with not pressing anything out unless it's absolutely necessary.

I think you'll find there are centres in both ends of both mainshafts.

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels

Sorry, not perhaps my most helpful of posts. I can only find one set of steel flywheels at the moment and these are from a 1938 500 but have suffered badly from water damage. They are balanced with drillings on the inside faces as you suggest but they still have the big end in place so measuring the...

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels

Before I put too much more effort into those wheels I'd make very sure that the eyes
for the big end haven't suffered. If the pins aren't a really good fit in the eyes
trouble will surely come.

Re: 1930 LF

Interested to see the clutch springs, mine, for what it's worth, has the shorter
springs. It must have been fun balancing the pressure plate with your
collection of springs.

Re: NH 350 inner timing cover dowel fitment

I've cheerfully swapped cases with only two areas of concern. One is the state of the quill feeding the crankshaft and the other is how well the camshaft bushes will align. There are all sorts and variations of timing case with the earlier ones having external rocker-box oil feed and sometimes oil p...

Re: Find bike registration details from a frame number

The factory records only show which dealer the bike was despatched to and when. You may be lucky in that the registration details for the country that the dealer was in have not been destroyed. An online search is the best way forward there. If you are extremely luck the dealer's records may have su...

Do check please but I think the bearings are the same as the iron KH.
If they are our Twin Spares may be able to help.

Re: Could this be a brass 500 head?

It's got to be cast iron. The bronze colour is applied to the carburetter studs as
well - they're steel.

If you wanted to use the head you'd have to strip that powder coating off, it's
almost perfect at keeping the heat in.

Re: Full width hub, sprocket does not fit.

That certainly looks 'Proper'. I can't get to a wheel to measure for a little while. Hopefully another user may be able to oblige . . . If you go onto the Members Only part of the club website and then the Detailed Images page of the Pictures section you will find over 400 images of an HS 500. The b...
