Re: Black ariel spares officer
Any suggestions of items of interest to make in the future To assist your efforts, I went through the Table of Contents and Appendix 1 of my book to remind me of items I had to fabricate or purchase (or might have had to purchase) when completely rebuilding my 1928 Model C. https://www.amazon.com/A...

Re: Black ariel spares officer
That's great news for all Black Ariel owners. Rebuilding my entire 1928 Model C before the Cannonball in 2017-2018, and the engine again after it, would have been a lot more difficult had there not been a spares officer at that time

Re: Magneto Magnet strength ?
The magneto I have the Most difficulty with is the Lucas Magdyno because you can't get contact with the Magnet itself except on the earlier models where it's removable and you'd need a keeper there to assemble it in the best way I don't understand. You can't get make direct contact with the magnets...

sparking at the points. An excellent, "non-invasive" test of the condenser is to look at the points on a running engine. A good condenser will result in nothing more than tiny pinpricks of light between the points. I should add that one of the magneto testers I have allows me to install a...

Re: For Sale: QH gear set for 1928 Ariels
I believe these gears sets are still available from Geoff, If that's the case, shipping within the UK certainly should be less expensive than from the US. However, since these were a club-sponsored item, why would that ad have appeared only once in the club magazine if they were still available nea...

Re: Magneto Magneto strength ?
the man who had rebuilt it some years before, he put it on his test rig ran it up to1000rpm and said there you are lovely spark nothing wrong with that, A Lucas manual says 300 rpm is the low end of kick-starting speeds, with 500 rpm normal. What this means is people with grey hair would be well ad...

For Sale: QH gear set for 1928 Ariels
Short Version: I have an unused 'QH' ("High Standard) gearset for some 1928 Ariels for sale for the same price I paid when I bought it in 2017, i.e. £400 (or equivalent) plus shipping. The actual ratios from the number of teeth are 2.013:1 (1st), 1.476:1 (2nd) and 1:1 (3rd). QH_01.jpg Long Ver...

Re: Black Ariel B&B Carburettor Data
Getting accuracy in making the jet will be a careful task ... The drawer of reamers holds the remnants of my failed attempts twenty or so years ago to make a needle jet (actually, not a jet, but a tool for jets). NeedleJets01.jpg Two size ranges are visible, for "ordinary" Amals and for t...

Re: Black Ariel B&B Carburettor Data
info to get me near the mark on making up a needle jet and needle Luckily, all internal combustion engines need the same air/fuel mixture, and "all" 500 cc singles draw the same volume of air past the carburetor and into the cylinder on each intake stroke. As a result, "all" Ama...
