Re: London - Edinburgh 2023 and the hopeless AA

The London-Edinburgh run was largely a success, although rather smaller in numbers than I had hoped. I wanted to do something memorable for my 40th birthday, and I have to say that acting the hooligan with Roger Gwyne on the road between Middleton in Teesdale and Stanhope will be a very good memory,...

Re: The KHA restoration starts (slowly)

Remind me about the speedo restoration when I see you. I had my KH speedo done by a guy who received it on the Monday and I collected it from the post office the same Saturday, having missed the scheduled delivery Thursday. Was only £80 too.

Re: Selling Bikes, best methods.

I’m afraid I do not agree with having an MOT on a classic bike. Personally it would make zero difference, as all it tells you is that it was considered roadworthy the day of the test. Most MOT testers will never have seen a similar bike before so will be muddling through which bits they can accurate...

Re: Fitting mag and clutch cable location on a single question

The approach I use is with a fairly long 3/8 extension and a nut put down the socket as a spacer, you can rest the bolt in the socket and offer it up with relative ease. I have heard of even more cunning members replacing the bolts for Allen bolts where it is even easier with the internal hex. Washe...

Re: KH 500 Engine Rebuild

1 - I believe so on the earlier bikes, but I have a memory that the name of the forge is cast on to the barrel flange and usually goes To the rear 2 - yeah it should do 3 - unless you have castellated nuts with split pins I would always replace BEWARE there are two different thread types so you may ...

Re: 1948 Square Four

It was a 212 mile trip for me yesterday and I was largely happy with the performance of the bike, aside from a fairly bad oil leak from the rocker gasket - I have an aluminium one on order from Draganfly so we will see how that goes. Always a worthwhile journey, particularly when my step mothers hom...

Re: Petrol shelf life

I have, this week, spent a considerable amount of time draining the fuel tank and lines of an almost brand new 4 wheeled vehicle, including a replacement fuel pump as it wouldn’t start. The reason for this was E10 which had a considerable amount of water in it. If it does that to a new vehicle which...

Re: wanted pre war SQ4

I actually did a little exercise on this last year, and estimated the restoration costs of doing an Ariel. Some stuff was finger in the air as I always do my own paint work but other stuff is firm, like the cost of pistons etc. I found *estimated: A single will cost around £7100 to restore A twin wi...

Re: SQ4 breather pipe

Hi Henning, You describe it almost exactly as it is. The brass pipe is sitting just inside the banjo bolt that comes through the back of the timing case, and has a small bracket soldered to it to secure it to the oil pump bolt. The end at the banjo bolt is smeared with silicone sealant. Since Pete’s...
