KH Crankcases

The observant among you will notice an absence of my 1954 KH this season. The reason for this begins with me finding that the engine had wet sumped over the winter, something I found a little odd since I have a one way valve in the feed. One day I decided to remove the valve to clean it (which is a ...

Re: 1948 Square Four

Following my recovery from Scotland, progress was slow, partially owing to the fact that I got home on the Saturday and flew to New York the following day to celebrate my 40th birthday with my wife. When I eventually got back to looking at the bike, I went over all of the obvious things, carburation...

Re: New club VH pistons

The cords type oil ring is common on modern engines that I am used to and from what you mention there is nothing to be of any concern. Be careful when installing the expander ring, on some Pistons the orientation matters (whether the expander spells ‘w’ or ‘m’) because dependent on the location of t...

Re: Time for the sludge traps.

While the engine is down it makes sense to replace the conrods, and the big end shells at the same time. Conrods are available from iron horse spares (google them) and shells available from Draganfly or the owners club if you are a member. Check the condition of the timing side mains and replace if ...

Re: Clutching at straws

That could well be it. I once overheated the clutch on Dads MK2 while in stop start traffic in Milton Keynes, he ended up swapping bikes with me after first adjusting the cable right down to give some more free play. They do need a bit.

Re: Another Ariel Saved

Very well done Les, looks lovely and quite an amazing feat to have completed it in the time since you came over at Christmas.

Hope to see it at some Ariel events in the future…

Re: Swinging arm single distance pieces

Alex,

I think I have a spacer which is currently surplus to requirements. Not sure if I want it out of my spares pile, but you could use as a pattern?

Re: London - Edinburgh 2023 and the hopeless AA

Hi All, A quick update here. My first call went in to the AA at 12.24pm on Friday, where I was told there would be a 2 hour wait for recovery, as I told them they didn't need to send a mechanic as I am one and I know that they couldn't fix it at the side of the road. An hour later I received a phone...
