Re: Brighter lights - 6v LED and halogen headlamp bulbs

Hi folks, Another aspect to LED bulb usage: I have them fitted to my Panther which has a reasonably modern solid state regulator. Am I safe to fit them to my old Ariel that has an MCR2 regulator ? It seems in good condition and has functioned well during the time I have had conventonal bulbs fitted ...

Re: Air filter question

Ok, thanks. However all the NH photos I found on the web so far show quite large tanks fitted to swing arm models, so would not work for my bike. I live in a very dusty area, so am worried about not having an air filter. Might need to see if I can find a slimmer tank from another make; I'm more conc...

Air filter question

Hi folks,
It is impossible to fit an air filter to my 1950 plunger VB due to the proximity of the oil tank.
Is it possible to fit an oil tank from a later model that gives enough space for an air filter ?
Cheers,
Bevan

Re: E3LM dynamo fibre gear

Unfortunately, I can't recall if I got the duff fibre gear from Drags or ebay, so I'm a bit cautious about potentially wasting more money. My old one is worn but still serviceable, so I'll put it back into service for the time being.

Re: Clutch friction plates

Hi Ian,
That is useful info thanks. I also had to file the bonded plate tangs, in width for some, and in height for most tangs - even then, they jam if slightly misaligned. The old plates fit perfectly without rattling, so I think I'll just write off the bonded ones as a bad purchase.

Re: Clutch friction plates

Thanks for the info gents.
In my ignorance, I had thought I was buying cork plates. Serves me right for being too lazy to recork my old ones I guess.

Clutch friction plates

Hi folks, I bought a set of clutch friction plates from Draganfly to replace my worn cork ones - they are described as "bonded". Is isn't clear to me if they are some form of cork or some other material. I know that Ariel plates run pretty much dry, but am aware that cork plates are often ...

VB return pump fail

On route to a New Zealand Ariel rally a couple of months ago, the VB return pump failed approx 30 miles from my destination. I did not detect anything amiss until I arrived and noticed a growing puddle of oil under the bike. In that distance it had pumped about half a tank of oil onto the road and a...

Re: E3LM dynamo fibre gear

Thanks for the replies. As most of you will have realised, I should have said "the fibre gear on the magneto that drives the metal gear on the E3LM dynamo".
