Oil weep from feed pipe nut
Hi folks, There is a persistent drip from the oil feed pipe nut, even though the pipe end and it's counterpart fitting on the timing case appear in good order. See attached photo. it looks as if the pipe end is soldered on - is this correct ? I'm wondering if there is a hairline crack or someting th...

A basic thread question
Hi folks, This question is not about an Ariel, but I hope someone can help anyway: my 1929 BSA Sloper has a splined sleeve on the engine shaft with a thread that has 20 tpi. It is approximately 1.3" across the (94 year old, somewhat worn) threads. So my guess is 1 5/16th originally (?). My ques...

Re: 1950 Single Front fork top bolt thread
Thsnks Nev.
Although I have a cyclethread tap and die set, it is all 26 tpi of course I want to make a fork draw bolt, so guess I'll need to buy a 3/4" 20 tpi bcy die.

1950 Single Front fork top bolt thread
Hi folks,
Could someone please tell me the thread type on the front fork top bolt (the one that screws into the fork tube) ? It seems to be 3/4" in diameter and 20 tpi not 26 tpi, but is it still BSC ?
Cheers,
Bevan

JP piston for a VB
Hi folks,
I have read many posts regarding the excessive weight of JP pistons and was wondering if anyone has a view on whether a +60 JP piston would be likely to cause undue excess vibration in a cast iron head VB.
Cheers,
Bevan

Re: Testing Dynamos
Just to add my recent experience: my return pump failed resulting in oil being pumped everywhere, including into the magneto and even up into the dynamo. Despite this, both continued to function perfectly. However, I was uneasy that this may not continue so sent the magdyno away for an expert to exa...

Re: Brighter lights - 6v LED and halogen headlamp bulbs
Thanks Ian for that very detailed and helpful reply. Since posting, I have removed and tested my Ariel's MCR2 - it does seem to meet the Lucas testing specs. Having recently retired as a Physics teacher and lost my access to an oscilloscope, I can't examine the voltage control behaviour versus time,...
