Re: Oil pump query
Thanks for the helpful replies. It was very hard to photograph the seats; the feed one looks smooth under a magnifyng glass, but the return definitely does not, and there is a discolouration around the seat area, so I'll give polishing a go this morning. I had wondered about lightly dressing the ret...

Oil pump query
Hi folks, I have been experiencing repeated return pump failures with my 1950 VB. Despite doing all the things previously recommended by the various experts on this forum (draining, cleaning the tank, pump, lines and filters, blowing out lines, tapping the ball to reseat it etc...) it keeps happenin...

Re: Possible gearbox case crack or not ?
Gidday Gary,
I bought a big tub of Amtex Viper 00 semi-fluid grease for my Panther's Burman box, so have topped up the VB's one with that. It is pretty runny, so hopefully o.k..
Cheers,
Bevan

Re: Possible gearbox case crack or not ?
Thanks Paul, Yes, it definitely has plenty of grease in it. Although I haven't removed the drain plug, I did actually have the cover off a few weeks ago so I could remove the mainshaft in order to replace the worn gearbox sprocket and had been concerned that a crack may have resulted. With new sproc...

Possible gearbox case crack or not ?
Hi folks, I haven't had need to disturb the gearbox drain plug since I got my 1950 VB a while back, but while doing an inspection I noticed what may or may not be a crack I've attached a photo - sure looks like a crack, but when zoomed up a bit, maybe not. What do you think ? Does the appearance of ...

DVR2 regulator question
Hi folks, I am going to swap out my old MCR2 as it doesn't seen to be behaving itself despite my best efforts.
See photo for what I was going to do.
My question is: is it ok to fit a DVR2 inside the old cover, or does it need a decent cooling air flow ?
Thanks, Bevan

Re: E3LM Field Coil replacement
Well, you were certainly right Chris. When hit with a propane torch, they bubbled, smoked, then caught fire briefly ! Didn't manage to capture the flame, but you can get the idea from the picture.
Cheers, Bevan.

Re: E3LM Field Coil replacement
Thanks Chris, that is very interesting. I wll give it a go, it would be handy to have a functional pair for backup.

Re: E3LM Field Coil replacement
Hi folks, Progress at last - around 13 Volts unregulated at a bit above idle - new brushes did the trick. Before fitting them, I compared the ease with which I could make a mark in some paper and it does appear that the old brushes are softer. And yet, the dyno functioned perfectly for the ~2000 mil...
