Re: Magneto Magnet strength ?
Great details on the magnetizer power - thank you! BTW, when I priced soft iron from Ed Fagan metals soft iron was about $10/pound and magnet wire was over $10/ pound. It's the primary reason I tried the capacitor type. If you know cheaper sources please share them.

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels
I use a press fit parallel pin with a Jawa con-rod in my engine, no nuts, no problems after almost 54,000 miles, well not with the pin to flywheel arrangement. The wheels were machined from steel billet and the fit is tight to say the least, I see 5 tons on the gauge on my press. What is the advant...

Mine are mild steel which the Lucas document says is OK. I believe Falco's are soft iron.Mharrisbarton wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 9:04 am are the North and south shaped blocks made of a particular special material such as swedish iron? matt Barton.

Re: Magneto Magnet strength ?
Dr. Falco, thank you for posting details of your magneto charger. I started to build one like yours even buying a very heavy transformer for the soft iron. After learning about the capacitor discharge type I decided to go with it because it seemed to be cheaper and easier to build. For anyone intere...

Re: Magneto Magnet strength ?
For older magnetos with exposed magnets I've used a guy that is a member of the local antique farm tractor club and his recharger worked well. Farm tractor and antique engine clubs are a good place to ask for a remagnetizer but they may not have one that is powerful enough for AlNiCo magnets cast in...

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels
Thank you Matt and Nev for all your help and thoughts. I rounded the leading edges of the crank pin on this one and one I installed a couple years ago. Can't remember if I did it on the one I did 12+ years ago. I've always aligned the cranks as you suggest Nev, with V-blocks where the bearings ride ...

VH Tapered Gudgeon Pins?
Read in CdF that a new run of VH pistons was made with internally tapered pins. Were any extra pins made for sale?

Thanks you Nev. I might try first on centers before pressing out the mainshafts.
