If there are signs of it rotating, the problem can't be fixed with Loctite for the reason in my previous post.paul.jameson wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 7:54 pmUnless there are signs of the old bearing rotating in the housing, I wouldn't bother.

Re: Bearing locking liquid
It would be safe, but pointless. The differential thermal expansion of Al and steel, not the actual temperature, would quickly break the bond.BarrieSteel wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 5:38 pmJust a thought on crankcase bearing instalation 350 single, would it be a safe measure to add locking fluid to bearings before installation,

Re: Small end question
The pin should move freely in the small end and be tight in the piston. I agree. If the pin is difficult to rotate by hand in the small end bush, the clearance is smaller than it should be, and if feels like it can rock even a small amount, it is bigger than it should be . Quantitatively, modern re...

Re: Reading Matter
I'm currently reading this, anyone know it? I'm an obsessive collector of motorcycle books, but two categories typically force me to plug my nose before buying them: 1) any book that has "A Celebration of" in its title, and 2) travelogues. I have the book (because I'm an obsessive collect...

Re: A basic thread question
As I mentioned, the Whitworth thread form was used on other than just "Whitworth" fasteners. I needed to attach a microscope objective to an optical instrument I designed a few years ago and, as a result, in my "special" tap drawer I have a 0.8"×36 tpi Royal Microscopical So...

Re: A basic thread question
Even when I have a die in the right size, it's no good if the end of a fastener is damaged. Dealing with that problem is a major use of the following the thread "restoring" tools. ThreadTools.jpg Although one of the files is sometimes the only choice, they aren't what I normally reach for ...

Re: Type 6 Carb Fuel Height
At least in my carburetor, the gasket shown in red was a bit troublesome. Although both sealing surfaces are in good condition, when I fit the gasket "dry", fuel managed to seep past it following the route shown. I then lubricated the gasket with EZ Turn petcock lubricant, which doesn't di...

Re: Type 6 Carb Fuel Height
Yes, at the top of the big nut Although the correct level is there, the reason is somewhat of a coincidence. The level needs to be slightly below the pilot air screw for the pressure depression in the main bore to lift the fuel into the air stream. The body of the carburetor could have been designe...

Re: Black ariel spares officer
Don't worry dave , I will do all homework that is needed . I'm sure I overlooked other items as well, but add a big end bearing to the list in my previous post. However, I didn't mean to imply that I thought the club should stock everything on the list since, as others have mentioned, many are avai...
