Re: Gasket Cement

'Wellseal' - non-setting 'cement', comes in a tube but thin enough that you can paint/spread it with a small brush and you don't get big gobs of it oozing all over the place. Don't touch anything silicone-based for the engine unless you can absolutely guarantee that you won't get a bead on the insid...

Re: blocked oilway in Huntmaster

John: Apologies, you're quite right. I thought I'd maybe missed a drilling but no, there's no other place for the pressure release to go than that oilway up to the camshaft trough. A longer session today suggests that my (1955) cases aren't completely blocked, just very slow to get to/from the relea...

Re: Chrome Plating Rims vs Buying New

Some people like to re-chrome, some buy new. The new rims don't seem to be dimpled in exactly the same pattern as the originals but most people seem to get them to work fine. I think personally I'd always go for stainless 'cos no matter how hard I try chrome rims always seem to rust inside in the we...

Re: Returning Member Introduction

Welcome, Barry I'm a recently retired ex-programmer as well - but I've been struggling for 30 years to get 2 VHs together and you seem to have a shedful!. Not bad for someone who hasn't ever seen another Ariel single on the road! Still, Canada's a bigger place than little old UK-land :D Look forward...

Re: blocked oilway in Huntmaster

John: A word of warning. I've just checked my (currently bare) Huntmaster crankcases by pouring some parrafin through the oilways and they appear to be 'blocked' in the same way as yours so maybe that's how they are supposed to be. I think the oilway from the cam trough is only a drain, through the ...

Re: A bit of bad luck and a bit of good luck.

A sealing washer isn't needed between the nut and the banjo - as the nut tightens it should create a good seal with the softer brass banjo (provided neither of the surfaces is damaged). All that is needed is a sealing washer (eg fibre) between the banjo and the rocker box, and in my experience that ...

Arrow kickstart/gearbox sprocket clearance

Brit Bits in Bournemouth have an Arrow kickstart and Arrow/Leader gearbox sprocket on their clearance list (seems to be at very good prices - although the list is dated 2014 so may be out of date!)

Re: Half-width Brake

You're supposed to use the fulcrum adjustment to get the brake to be pulling fully on when the lever-arm is at right angles to the cable (therefore getting maximum purchase through the lever-arm). Cable adjustment is then used to get a comfortable level of free play at the handlebar (and obviously w...
