Re: Ariel Single Crankcase marks
Hi Johnny. Yes it could be, but they manifest themselves as hollows rather than projections which have been filed off, and also they would be lower than the drive side bearing housing if laid horizontal so not convinced. Then again, you could be right :)...By the way, I have added another photo (NH)...

Ariel Single Crankcase marks
Hi All. I was wondering what these marks are on the front left side crankcase? I have seen them on many photos of the 4 stroke singles. My bike also has them. Does anyone know and why they are here? I cannot imagine why unless they are the remains of a casting mould at manufacture...See for yourself...

Re: WANTED Swinging Arm for 4 stroke frame
Thanks Will for that information, it's very useful. I would need the '56 onward one (bike is '59 VH) as it has the full width hubs and full rear chain-guard. My current one is very badly pitted although powder coated over and also had quite a large dent which presumably got there during a strip down...

Re: What is the CORRECT size carb on a VH
Thanks Roger. The bike has a '57 engine so as said should have a 1 1/16" Monobloc. I was more intrigued to know the size of the inlet tract diameter on the cylinder head, since many owners fit bigger carbs than standard, presumably because the port is much bigger than the original carb size fit...

What is the CORRECT size carb on a VH
Following my last post I am intrigued by the fact that no-one , it seems, fits a 1 1/16" (27mm) Monobloc carb (the original size fitted) on their VH engines. Most choose 30mm diameter Concentric type carbs. MY QUESTION: What was the STANDARD inlet tract (port) diameter please? . Unless everyone...

Re: OHV Decompesser mechanism question
I took it all apart on the weekend (rocker box and levers etc) and broke the taper seal. The decompressor seems to be working fine, I can move it by hand and it feels good but when used by the handlebar lever it's very stiff. I did oil the cable but it was already in good free condition. Maybe it w...

Re: Wrong carb but will a Wassell concentric work OK
If your inlet measures only 28mm, maybe it was originally used on a HT5 trails bike? Hi Klaus...The port itself, I can only estimate is possibly 30mm. The reason I cannot measure it easily is that the actual mouth of the port opening or the carb flange fixing is smaller at only 28mm. Usually all mo...

Re: Wrong carb but will a Wassell concentric work OK
I have concentric carbs on two VH's - 30mm They fit and run fine. Both are on a 200 main jet. Thanks for that info John. As you have fitted the 2x 30mm carbs you must have viewed the cylinder head inlet ports. Did you have to enlarge them? The original carb size metric equivalent is 27mm. What I do...

Re: Wrong carb but will a Wassell concentric work OK
Thanks Johnny. Their prices are quite reasonable and they seem to have Monoblocs available. I did buy the Wassell and I will use it to see how it performs. However I would still like info as regards the standard inlet port for a late VH, my one looks bigger than 28mm diameter yet there are casting m...
