VH '59 In Glamour Red

My bike awaiting it's restoration. Looks reasonable but could be better inside and out :)
Whatever the condition, the Red Hunter has to be one of the "Most Elegant Singles" (Bob Currie quote)

Re: PRIMARY CHAINCASE CLUTCH SHAFT SEAL-4 stroke

Superb help, Simon, Will and Mick. I've found the oiler hole and chain oiler pipe at the bottom. So it is a correct age tank, that's a relief. Don't know why I couldn't find them before as I'd looked a couple of times but having the photos really helped. Many thanks. However the bottom feed pipe has...

Re: PRIMARY CHAINCASE CLUTCH SHAFT SEAL-4 stroke

Thanks Will. Yes I did notice that some oil was dripping out of the full rear chain guard. I looked into the oil tank after removing the cap but all I could see was a spring that held down the oil filter which is weird and unlike the filter on my VB. The VH one is over six inches long and thinner. T...

Re: PRIMARY CHAINCASE CLUTCH SHAFT SEAL-4 stroke

Thanks very much Mick, Dave and Roger. The idea of putting just enough oil in it could work as there was SOME oil in it and it didn't leak, well maybe only a little. I had the bike on the stand and level and filled a touch too much and let the small screw level hole drain it off. I used just some mu...

Re: PRIMARY CHAINCASE CLUTCH SHAFT SEAL-4 stroke

I've just found that DRAGS say NO SEAL was ever fitted :( So if no seal exists there can be no wear on the sealing method from what was there at manufacture...Right? I cannot believe the bike (a VH) would have been produced so that the correct amount of oil would just spew out in seconds!...What's w...

PRIMARY CHAINCASE CLUTCH SHAFT SEAL-4 stroke

Hi All. I renewed the chaincase oil yesterday. Filled only to the level hole. I started the engine and oil poured as if from a tap onto the garage floor from what must be the gearbox shaft...I checked the DRAGS site but could not find anywhere that mentioned a seal. However on the video I show (link...

Re: Carb overhaul results

Hi Dave. Yes very slow indeed. I'm intrigued by the "lub-dub" heart like firing sound. I can't think why it doesn't just tick-over with a very slow evenly spaced lub-lub-lub beat, in theory it should. maybe some small eccentricities on the chain drive to the magneto...fascinating...PS just...

Re: Wrong carb but will a Wassell concentric work OK

Well today I received the 28mm Wassell. At less than a hundred quid I was quite impressed by the quality. I wasted some time fitting it because the box says make sure the pilot jet is tight...the diagram on the instructions shows the pilot jet inside the float bowl. I removed this, disturbing the ga...
