Re: Aluminium heads on singles
DAVID, I tend to heat the alloy up to high temp and that reduces stresses and the likelihood of cracks. Most welders don't do that at the temps I do.IF you're welding in the Gut's of a head, THINK BIG'. Chop a lot away and come in from the easiest side making sure every metal lay down in the puddle ...

Without trying to stir the Possum, Back a while when Poured bearings were common we would NEVER hone white metal . The grit embeds into the softer Babbit metal, and wears the harder shaft. Better to align bore the bearing to size with a fine pointed HS cutting tool in a boring bar.. The boring bar c...

Re: Noisy cam pinions
With no backlash they WILL WHINE but as the motor warms the lash will increase as the alloy case expands more. There's no way to adjust them other than make a new set. Doesn't have to be both Gears Try to have NO run out on the crankshaft pinion shaft. IF the gears come from a different maker the Te...

Re: 1927 model e carby adjustments
They are a 2 Lever carb basically and CAN work well as long as any parts are made as original as you can get them to be. AJS ran multi jet without a long needle ( BINKS) during the same years. The body may have been a bit worn (another variable). IF you get them RIGHT you can move the 2 levers close...

Re: 350 bigend torque figure ?
Do the DRIVE side first. You can hold that wheel in a Vice and it's doing the most work I don't use Torque figures. You go by feel and the words "Pretty tight". JAPs have shallow tapers angles and 26 tpi threads and are easy(ER) to crack the wheels. Corser threads need more torque. Hard to...

Re: Noisy cam pinions
Very strong valve springs Load and wear the teeth quicker and any.Flywheel main shaft run out on the timing side doesn't help much either. The inner camshaft bush wears on each side. At 3 and 9 oclock. Not up and down .Any play there should be eliminated to keep the gear mesh depth constant. Then ho...
