Re: DKY (mK1) Rotor positions

Ah, i now see the problem. A cam and rotor that is “out” by 30 degrees won’t work, as you already know.

Re: DKY (mK1) Rotor positions

The pics show the same orientation for the rotor arm and cam as my Mk 2. However, even if it was the opposite orientation it wouldn’t matter, as when you are setting the ignition timing up from scratch you put the distributor in to the crankcase so it is approximately right, then just turn it so the...

Re: MK ll lubrication

From the cylinder head oil flows down the push rod tunnels, through the guides for the cam followers and down into the sump.
Primary chain is lubricated by the oil in the primary chain case.
I have not experienced over oiling on my Mk2 with a Morgo, but i can’t speak for others.

Re: Ariel on show in Netley 1986

At a class reunion dinner one of the teachers turns to his former pupil sitting next to him and asks “was it you or your brother that was killed in the last war?”

Coincidentally I was living in Southampton in 1986, but didn’t visit the fair.

Re: Square Four engine in FH frame - Oil Tank???

I have a similar square four with the pipes and oil tank from a swinging arm Ariel. There is also an inline filter on the return flow (one from Draganfly) and there have been no problems with the oil circulation. I’ve been running the bike for nearly three years and 2,000 miles (with two oil changes...

Re: Square Four Mk2 Head Gaskets - Options?

I’ve tried both Otto and “standard” head gaskets on both my mark 1 and mark 2 square fours. The Ottos were fine on both, and the standard gaskets were all right on the mark 2. I had problems on the mark 1 with the standard gaskets blowing out. On both bikes I replaced all the cylinder head studs wit...

Re: Sq4 MkI - what now?!?

In the lower picture it looks like I can see both bolts that hold the number 3 big end together. They are both very damaged, but one looks like it may have come loose? Also, this looks like an original rod and big end bolts, not the new club rods and bolts. If that is the case then that might be a c...
