Re: Square 4 Accuspark fitted

A bit of googling brought up a Youtube video showing an Accuspark module fitted to a Mk1. This was useful because it resolved the question of whether I was looking for a complete distributor or just the module. The video refers to 'kit 39' which can be searched-for on Accuspark's website. Now, the m...

Re: Square 4 Accuspark fitted

Aah..thanks, Paul,
That sounds like an Austin 7 type with reverse rotation might be the one.

Re: Square 4 Accuspark fitted

Thanks, Mark, but I'm still confused (a more frequent situation, as time goes by!) On the Accuspark website, they list distributors, full kits and modules. Which did you go for? They don't list anything for Ariel, although they do supply parts for Austin 7's. However, I understand that the distribut...

Re: Square 4 Accuspark fitted

Hello Mark,
Which Accuspark unit did you use? I've looked on their website and the nearest thing I can see is for an Austin 7.

That's exactly my line of thought.
It does seem very likely that all the oil pressure is being dissipated at the rear crank bush.

But....isn't the capacity of the return side of oil.pumps supposed to be greater than that of the feed??
If that is the case, why does the sump fill up with oil?

Re: Sq4 MkI- new life

Looking at the second video, could it be that the oil is coming out of the timing case drain hole into the sump, rather than from around the t/s bush? If that were the case, it suggests that the sump oil level is too high. Could this point to a scavenging/oil return problem? Thinking about what Paul...

Re: Sq4 MkI- new life

So it would seem both work and open at somewhere in the range of 35-40psi. However, what puzzles me is that the pressure then drops to 0 once I stop the pump. Which leads me to believe that they don’t seal again. Is there a tyre valve fitted to your test rig, Gui? (Sorry if this was mentioned in an...

Re: Sq4 MkI- new life

Gui, When you've tested and fettled the valve as far as you can go, I would still test it in-situ when the engine is assembled back in the bike and the oil tank is full. On my bike, I removed the cap on the front crank and then used the kickstart to turn the engine over. It surprised me that it only...
