Keith, I have been making them out of non-compressible asbestos-like sheeting with a laser cutter. They are however quite thin at 0.5mm so you need to put two or three together if tapper clearance is a problem. They seem to do the trick on my NH. If you let me know your snail mail address I can send...

The key to a painless recovery without complications is having the anesthetist inject local anesthetic into the operative bed during the procedure as well as having the general or spinal anesthetic. This way the body does not know you are having your limb ripped off and the autonomic reflexes normal...

Thanks Ben. In fact I know Paul. Small world, as they say. I didn't think I had a hope in hell of finding someone in NZ who had the faintest idea of what a square 4 was so I was delighted to meet him through a rather strange set of circumstances. I had put an ad in the local paper for Ariel parts, a...

Mk 1 spark plugs

Can anybody suggest what the appropriate modern spark plug version for a 1949 Mk I might be?

Re: What are you listening to?

42 years ago I was listening to Pink Floyd and riding a 53 VH - now I'm listening to Pink Floyd and riding a 51 NH. Amazing progress I've made in that time.....

Re: VH 500 1949 Head gasket

I had a 1949 VH 500 that had a thin copper head gasket - way back in the 60s - Kurt. The then Ariel dealer was adament that I should change it at every decoke. I believe the 350s did not have them though.

Re: trouble light on panel tanks

John, that eBay part looks pretty much the same as the one on my 49 Mk 1, although mine is part Bakelite, part tin. A cunning idea to use an LED!

Re: Serial number 'X' suffix

Thanks for that Markus. that would make sense as some of the frame elements are earlier than 1949.

Serial number 'X' suffix

I've got a 1949 Mk I that has an 'X' as the last character of the serial number. Does anyone know if this signifies anything special? I can't see anything else that isn't standard on it.

I'd be very grateful for any information.
Many thanks
Richard
