Re: Thorspark Electronic Ignition advice.

Dennis,
Can you do it by attaching the disc to the end of the camshaft? It's half engine speed, of course, but I've done it that way to make plots of valve lift. Not run the engine like that but I suppose with care its possible.

Re: Mystery cause of sticking inlet valves on Mk II engine.

Paul, I fear the flash point is little guide to high temperature breakdown in lubricating oils. (But are you thinking of spontaneous or auto ignition?) All fluids have some vapour (even molten metals, some at room temp like mercury) and if the fluid is flammable then with the right test it will igni...

Re: ‘Gummy’ throttle slide

A further way to "oil" the element is to dissolve some grease in petrol and place the element in it and then allow it to dry. Then you'll have a very thin layer of grease on each strand of the element that won't blow off into the carb. I use this on all my home made air cleaners, especiall...

Re: 1946 VB (Iron Head )valve chest oiling

Gary, I might have to follow Roger's path if mine burns too much oil. (Its yet to run after a rebuild; a couple of years of family and health concerns have delayed me.) Regarding oil consumption, my "Ariel Owner's Guide for the 1954-55 Models" says they " . . should average about 2000...

Re: 1946 VB (Iron Head )valve chest oiling

Little is needed 'cos the tappets (well oiled from below) provide as Nev says a vertical motion to the valves pe...

Slow postage!

What ho, chums! I despatched a sidecar nut, bolt and washer to a correspondent here on the 5th of December; he's just told me he got it on the 21st! That's about 110 miles in 16 days, less than 7 miles a day; I could've walked it in half the time. I've never known postage to be so slow and so I hope...
