Re: Engine/gearbox alignment FH
Thanks heaps everybody for your instant help - you are wonderful. My clutch grabs, it doesn't drag. All the bonded pads are in place and intact and the basket slots are in reasonable condition. And yes I've just been advised by my wise buddy (who, at 80 years of age, still races his 1926 Chater Lea ...

Re: Engine/gearbox alignment FH
My basket wiggles. Rollers are new. It's hard to imagine the needle roller set up working well enough to eliminate wiggle.- I can live with the outer basket wiggling. I think it only does that when the clutch is pulled. They probably all do it. However my clutch grabs really badly - so savagely I us...

Re: Which pistons are available for my ariel
The barrell in my '35 Red Hunter has been sleeved. It's had some seizure issues, it's scored, and should be fixed. I suspect it's under original size. Not having any luck finding a good replacement barrel, so I'm planning to try reboring the sleeve and finding a piston to fit (vice versa). Any sugge...

Re: early vs latet oil pumps
I think you cans use all the stuff from a later model. The only real difference is the radius on the later models ( for looks).on the inner case. I have fitted the fine gears and later camshafts to those early engines though I can't speak for the 28 model. oil pump and all just go straight on. oute...

You guys are treasures. I've been on forums of a few bikes I've owned and you guys win by miles. My old pin is the smaller one - standard for the '35 so it hasn't been bored out. Until the big end wore out it ran very sweetly, so there's hope it will go back together true enough. I'll try to use the...

This is all very interesting as I'm just about to try assembling mine with a new big end. It's a '35 Red Hunter (but the bike hardly has anything original left in it). It has steel wheels with parallel pin. 2 Questions so far: 1. Would an ancient NOS Hoffman bearing be likely to be better than a new...

Valve guide lube on my '35 RH was by the copper tube from crankcase to the inlet mentioned, and nothing on the exhaust. Previous owner fitted new iron guides and wasn't able to drill them - because they were too hard - so now both guides run dry. I overgrease the spindles hoping some will melt into ...

Re: oil pressure to crank
Thanks everyone, The inlet guide of my '35 RH was originally lubricated through a copper tube from crankcase as Nev describes. When the previous owner got it going in 1997 he put new valves and iron valve guides in it. He was unable to drill an oil hole in the new guide because it was too hard, so i...

Thanks Pete and Brenton for your fast and helpful response. I'm in Australia - the most Easterly point. From now I'll call the pipe a quill. It's not stepped on my bike, but the bike was being thrashed as a speedway trainer when I got it in '72 and has a lot of parts incorrect. I will certainly cons...

oil pressure to crank
I’ve owned my ’35 Red Hunter 500 three times since 1972. In the 1970s I put a new big end in it but never ran it and sold it to a mate when my marriage went south in the mid 1990’s and I needed money. He got it going and rode it on rallies, then sold it back to me when his marriage broke down in 200...
