John Budgen has new heads for £625 (not sure if that's plus VAT), Draganfly sometimes have used ones, worth checking, The last used NH head I bought from them was £60 + VAT and postage and in excellent condition. Flutes on 1956 tank
I want to remove the flutes from my NH tank for rechroming and as this is the first Ariel I have owned with flutes can anyone tell me the easiest way to remove before I do any damage? I assume they are just clipped and are removed by just easing forward but that seems too easy.

Washer under valve spring collar
Can anyone tell me the function of the Halite washer under bottom collar of valve springs? I note that these appear in the VH diagrams but not in the NH and Drags descibe them as for singles. Personally I have never seen them on post war NH models but have I missed something or were they only fitted...

I managed to pick one up from Drags about a year ago for, I think about £60 + Vat etc for a '56 NH. In nice condition.

Only ever used matched gearsor originals in box and never found any wear lines very fine or not. I would suggest it's a function of the epicyclic profile and how well it was machined and matched and Chris is absolutely corect about modern gears. I just accept the characteristics of my old Burman gea...
